A Message from our Party Chair

Many thanks to all of you who attended Tuesday evening’s launch of the  Independent Oxford Alliance. It was a delight to see the room so full, and with such a buzz in the air.

If you were unable to make it on Tuesday night, then you can find out more:

There will be videos from the evening on our website in the next couple of days so, if you missed it and want to listen, or if you want to review what was said, this option will be available to you shortly.

We were heartened by the level of interest and support at the event, and very much look forward to working alongside our communities to win seats on the councils – starting of course with Oxford City Council elections in 2024, and followed by Oxford County Council elections in 2025.

We can only do this with the help and support of the communities we wish to serve.  So, if you haven’t already, please join us!

  • As a member:
A party is only as strong as its members. If you believe in our cause and our shared values, please join us. 100% of your membership dues will go directly to supporting our candidates. We have kept the cost deliberately low, to make us accessible
  • As a donor
If you can afford more, then we would welcome that support. So far we are entirely self funded.
  • As a volunteer:
You don’t need to join as a member to help our cause. We need people to distribute leaflets, join our campaign team, make phone calls, and generally support our candidates.
  • As a candidate:
We are looking for honest, reliable and committed local people to stand in the City and County elections. Let us know you’re interested and we will follow-up with you in a few days.

And of course: Please vote for us in the next local election!

But by far my biggest and strongest appeal to you is this:

Please spread the word!

Speak to your friends, relatives and neighbours and let them know that we are here – and that we are a very different and viable option for their vote!

If they are not registered, please encourage them to register to vote, and then to actually vote in May next year.

Our biggest task is to persuade the non-voting public to re-engage with politics, because they can no longer afford to remain silent and unheard – and as we can see, under the current regime, the ONLY way the people will be heard is through their vote at the ballot box. Because talking to the existing councils, responding to their consultations, speaking at their meetings – no matter how passionately and how strong is your evidence – makes no difference.

We …..You…. need to be proactive

We have too easily lost sight of the privileges we have – or should have – in a democratic society – that being the power that we hold over those who govern us, because under our system…. in theory!…. it is the electorate that gives consent to be governed.

The Power of those in power comes from the people.

So we have the power to change the status quo!

A vote for a candidate in the Independent Oxford Alliance is a vote for real democracy!

Please do join us, to receive regular updates on future events and developments. Our website https://independentoxfordalliance.org/ is a good source of information, and you can contact us directly with questions, information and suggestions at:
