We care deeply about the suffering caused by conflict, injustice, and human rights abuses around the world—including in Palestine.
But as a local party, our role is to serve the people of Oxford and Oxfordshire. That means focusing on the issues we can directly influence through City or County Council decisions—like housing, transport, education, and local services.
We recognise that many residents have strong views on global matters. So do many of our councillors, candidates and members. They are, of course, free to express their personal opinions.
But, as a political group, we will not issue public statements or campaign on global issues unless there is a clear and direct link to local Council responsibilities.
We believe this is the most honest and effective way to do politics: by staying focused on what we can actually change.

We believe these issues matter deeply. But as a local party, our role is to focus on what Oxford City and Oxfordshire County Councils can control. We don’t have the power to influence foreign policy, so we don’t campaign on it.
We don’t want to mislead voters by making statements that suggest we can act on something we can’t change. We focus on local policies—housing, transport, social care—where we can make a real impact.
Our candidates and members are free to share their personal views. Voters deserve to know what kind of people we are. But as a party, we keep our official messaging rooted in local responsibility.
Not at all. We care—but we also believe in honest politics. Campaigning on issues we can’t influence distracts from the work we can do for people in Oxford and Oxfordshire.
Some parties use global issues to raise their profile, even when they can’t do anything directly about them. We think that’s an empty gesture. We’d rather stay focused and accountable to the people we serve locally.
