Announcing our North Oxford Candidates for 2025 Oxfordshire County Council Elections

The Independent Oxford Alliance is proud to announce that Inga Nicholas and Mark Beer, OBE will be standing with us as Independent candidates in the upcoming Oxfordshire County Council elections on 1st May 2025

Inga Nicholas will contest the Cutteslowe and Wolvercote division in North Oxford, while Mark Beer will stand for election in Summertown and Walton Manor.

This election represents a critical opportunity for Oxfordshire residents to challenge selective and flawed consultations which have resulted in unpopular policies based on ideology rather than need.

Fighting Against Unfair Transport Policies

For too long, Oxfordshire County Council has been introducing policies on such things as Traffic Filters, the Workplace Parking Levy, Controlled Parking Zones, and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods without proper regard for their full consequences. These policies penalise small businesses, and restrict people’s ability to live a normal life, for example, making it difficult to get to work, visit and care for elderly relatives, and get to after-school activities. The Independent Oxford Alliance believes in redirecting funds toward fixing potholes and improving road infrastructure, ensuring a safer and more efficient transport system that works for everyone.

Ending Wasteful Spending & Mismanagement

Analysis of County Council accounts by Inga and Mark has revealed millions of pounds wasted while essential services such as elderly social care and special needs education remain underfunded. The County Council currently holds millions in unspent cash and investments, yet vital services continue to suffer. The Independent Oxford Alliance is committed to ending this waste, ensuring transparency, and making taxpayer money work for residents.

Restoring Common Sense to ‘Green’ Policies

The County Council defends its refusal to cut grass in parks and along roadsides as an ecological measure, yet in some areas, this creates visual hazards. Meanwhile, its aggressive push toward Net Zero—twenty years ahead of the rest of the country—disrupts public services, with traffic filters and poorly planned bike lanes, increasing congestion and limiting access to hospitals and schools. These delays impose significant costs on the NHS due to missed appointments. It is time for a balanced, common-sense approach.

Supporting Local Businesses

The County Council has prioritised attracting large-scale tech and research industries while neglecting local businesses. The Independent Oxford Alliance recognises the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises to the local economy, creating jobs and supporting our communities. Inga and Mark will work to ensure local businesses receive support, resources, and access to customers.

A Truly Independent Voice for Oxfordshire

UK politics is more fragmented than ever, and Oxfordshire needs representatives who are not bound by party politics. Both Inga and Mark are truly independent candidates, free to advocate for policies that serve the best interests of their constituents without the interference of national party agendas.

Meet the Candidates

Inga Nicholas – Candidate for Cutteslowe and Wolvercote

Inga Nicholas moved to Oxford in 2017 and quickly embraced the city as her home. However, she has witnessed a steady decline in the city’s infrastructure and personal freedoms due to poor decision-making at both the City and County Council levels.

Inga is committed to restoring public consultation in local governance and ensuring that the elderly and those with special needs receive the care and support they deserve. She believes that local government should serve its residents rather than dictate how they live their lives.

Mark Beer, OBE – Candidate for Summertown and Walton Manor

Mark Beer, an Oxford University graduate and proud Summertown resident, is passionate about protecting Oxford’s unique charm while promoting responsible development. He is an advocate for local businesses, transparent governance, and accountable public spending.

Mark believes that the County Council’s excessive and mismanaged ideological policies have restricted access to essential public services and increased congestion, harming the community. He will work to ensure policies are practical, effective, and benefit all residents.
