The Independent Oxford Alliance (IOA) is proud to announce three new candidates joining its team for the upcoming Oxford City Council elections. These enthusiastic individuals bring diverse backgrounds and a shared commitment to putting residents first, offering voters a genuine alternative to established political parties.
The new candidates are:
Chaka Artwell (Barton & Sandhills)
A long-time local campaigner who regularly holds Oxford City Council to account, challenging them on their policies and representing the needs of the community, Artwell has lived in Barton for 20 years. He is passionate about the return of democracy and ensuring that residents genuinely have a voice.
Sal Naqvi (St Clements)
Born, raised and resident in the St. Clements area, Sal Naqvi has first-hand lived experience of the issues that are impacting the community. With a passion for tackling issues like pollution and unemployment, and extensive experience in business, Sal has a strong drive to bring a fresh perspective and ensure that the people of St Clements have a true and genuine voice on the council.
Ian Yeatman (Cowley)
A lifelong resident of Oxford, Ian has extensive commercial experience which has focused on using data to support effective decision making. As a manger of a highly successful team, he is experienced in engaging with people, communicating effectively and leading projects. He is also passionate about equality & protecting the vulnerable within our communities and has challenged the council previously on decisions he feels discriminate against disabled residents.
These three candidates join the existing team of John Skinner (St Mary’s), David Henwood (Rose Hill & Iffley), and Anne Stares (Littlemore), who have already gained significant support for their community-focused approach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ian, Sal and Chaka to our growing team,” said Anne Gwinnett, Chair of the Independent Oxford Alliance. “Their passion for Oxford and dedication to improving the lives of all residents makes them invaluable assets to our campaign. Their diverse perspectives strengthen our representation and ensure we have a voice for every corner of the city.”
The Independent Oxford Alliance stands for:
- Putting residents first: first and foremost, we are accountable to, and will faithfully represent the people and businesses of Oxford.
- Open and transparent governance: Fostering public participation and holding the council accountable for its decisions.
- Improving quality of life: Building upon community values to ensure communities have the facilities they need within easy reach, whilst having the freedom to travel to distant places.
